    Design Useful Tips
    • Always consider that a Registered Design will only protect the visual appearance of an item. If the shape, appearance, or other aspect of the item has a functional aspect, these should be protected separately with a Patent (link to Patents).
    • In many instances, line drawings (e.g. un-rendered drawings) are best for inclusion in a Registered Design. This is because any unnecessary shading or rendering present in drawings or photographs may render the Design unclear.
    • Do not disclose your item to any one until you have filed for a Registered Design as your disclosure may affect your rights to obtain a Registered Design for the item.
